Does Your House Need a New Roof?
The answer is an obvious yes if you are building a new house. You want to install a roof that is durable, energy-efficient, and suitable to the building style of your home. However, if you have an existing roof, how can you tell that it’s time to replace it? Here are some tell-tale signs:
- Sagging Roof: This usually indicates a severe structural issue beneath the roof shingles. A qualified contractor will remove the shingles and assess the problem to determine its root cause.
- Age: Asphalt shingles commonly used for residential roofing typically last around 20-25 years, while slate, copper, and other materials tend to last longer. Depending on the material used, if your roof is older than 20 years, you should consider having it inspected and possibly replaced or updated with higher quality materials to avoid leaks.
- Moss/Vegetation growth: While this does not always indicate that you immediately need to replace your roof, it could signal potential water damage, which can lead to more severe consequences. The extent of damage and possible solutions can be determined by inspection of your roof.
If any/all of the above signs fit, then it’s time to schedule an inspection with us.
